DIALOGUE FACILITATON BETWEEN FARMERS AND HERDERS IN BOLE COMMUNITY OF YOLA SOUTH LGA, ADAMAWA STATE
Way back in November, 2018 in Bole community of Yola South during harvest period, Herders brought in their cattle from grazing when the Farmers have not completed harvesting .This culminated into farm destructions, killings and harming one another, anarchy was the order of the day .In the midst of this chaotic situation, Murmushi sought the sponsorship to mediate between the warring farmers and herders.
After putting in place all necessary peace apparatus i.e. “The Murmushi peace formula’’ commencing with advocacy visits ,Dialogue sessions ,formation and training of mediation committee comprising farmers and herders, it then culminated into signing of peace accord between farmers and herders in Bole community.
The success story here is after this intervention, farmers and herders no longer see themselves as enemies. They live in peace and harmony. The mediation committee now handles cases not only on security matters, but even handling marriage related cases.
That is not all, cases already lodged in police stations and courts before the formation of the committee are now withdrawn and settled by the committee. The acceptance period to finish harvest and return cattle from grazing was agreed upon .A case in mind is a Herder whose child allowed cattle in a farm, he was fined, he paid damages to the farmer and the erring child punished according to the agreed punitive measures to serve as deterrent to others .These were all achieved due to the peace intervention .Peace now reigns supreme in Bole community which is the envy of neighboring communities
