Community Testing & Treatment for Malnourished Children Using Ready-to-Use Nutrition Powder

across bole community of yola south adamawa state

introduction

In an effort to address malnutrition among children under five, our team implemented a field test of a specially formulated, ready-to-use nutrition powder. The powder is designed to prepare pap a familiar and easily digestible meal to support the dietary needs of children showing signs of malnourishment.

The testing took place in Bole community, Yola South LGA, Adamawa State, where we engaged with local families to screen children using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tapes, a standard method for detecting malnutrition. The outreach helped us identify cases early and begin immediate dietary intervention using our nutrition powder.

project objectives

  • To identify cases of acute malnutrition in children under five using community-based screening

  • To introduce a practical and culturally accepted nutritional intervention (pap made with the fortified powder)

  • To track recovery progress through visual and health improvements in the children

  • To raise community awareness about the signs of malnutrition and simple home-based solutions

success stories

One of the most touching outcomes from the project involved two children from Jimeta Sangere, Yola North, who were visibly malnourished during our screening. Their MUAC results confirmed our concerns, and we immediately began them on a feeding plan using the nutrition powder.
With consistent feeding and the support of their caregivers, we began to see visible changes. Their energy levels improved, their cheeks became fuller, and their MUAC readings moved into the healthy range. The before-and-after photos tell a powerful story of transformation proof of what targeted, community-based intervention can do in a short time.
