CPSP MEETING WITH MURMUSHI'S ED

In Adamawa State, communities once divided by mistrust are now working together for peace and safety. Through the Community Peace and Safety Partnership (CPSP) initiative, facilitated by the Murmushi People’s Development Foundation (MPDF) with support from the British Council, residents of Mubi North, Mubi South, Michika, and Hong LGAs have built stronger ties, amplified marginalized voices, and created real solutions to long-standing social problems. Before Murmushi, with support from the British Council, facilitated this intervention, citizens living in Mubi North, Mubi South, Michika, and Hong LGAs of Adamawa State lived in disharmony. Women, youths, persons with disabilities, and the less privileged were excluded from decision-making processes that affected them. In response, the Murmushi People’s Development Foundation (MPDF) initiated this platform to unite all stakeholders and promote inclusiveness.

The success stories from these meetings and follow-ups are remarkable. For instance, the committee identified a mentally ill woman walking naked in Mubi North. Members immediately contacted the Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Women Affairs. As a result, the woman is no longer on the streets; she now receives care and support from the Murmushi People’s Development Foundation. In another case, the committee observed the absence of a drainage system in a particular area of Mubi North. They engaged the relevant authorities, from councilors to the Ministry of Works, leading to the construction of a culvert that solved the long-standing problem.

MPDF also provided lawyers to defend the less privileged in court and ensure justice. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) was engaged to sensitize the community on security awareness. Through these efforts, citizens became more informed about security matters. The platform has successfully brought stakeholders together, resolved security and societal issues, and established clear channels for reporting and addressing community concerns.
